I have been the biggest fan of Fermoie (pronounced ‘fur-moy’) since I discovered the brand a few years ago while working with Leslie on a project here in LA. The brand makes the most beautiful linens and cottons in a variety of easy to use prints and patterns, and in a multitude of colors. I think I’ve managed to work a little something Fermoie into just about every project I’ve ever done – be it a sconce shade, a chair, or a little throw pillow. Above is a chair in the corner of my room in their Rabanna, one of my favorite prints.
I currently have two projects in the works, and both are going to have beautiful Fermoie shades in them. I think that custom lampshades are such an important yet often overlooked part of decorating a room. The shades that come with most lamps are a pretty uninspiring paper (or cheap linen if you’re lucky) and if you switch out your shade for something a little more special it just helps to pull a room together and make the space look that much more unified and ‘done’. Custom/fabric shades are definitely an investment but one that I truly think is always worth spending on.
I was asked recently what would be my number one decorating tip and I think I would have to say it is custom lampshades – and adding in just about anything from Fermoie.
Another bonus about the brand is that their items are available to the average consumer, not solely to decorators like a lot of designer fabric companies. I actually like this – a lot of designers don’t like when brands will sell directly to the consumer, but I think it’s just another thing that makes Fermoie special…like they’re helping to democratize good design. Now, I’m not knocking designers (obviously – It’s my job!) but I do think sometimes people are savvy and interested enough in design to know what they’re looking for and just want a pretty finishing piece like a lampshade or fun cushions.
You can purchase directly through the brand online, or you can check out some of their ready to ship shades through a cute shop called The Shade Shop.
Just a little love note about one of my favorite brands – thanks for reading!
