I’m obsessed w/ Cle Zellige Tiles

There’s this newish tile company called Cle that I’ve become completely obsessed with. We are using their zellige tiles in an upcoming project and ever since I first laid eyes on the samples we had, I’ve been in love. I’ve also started noticing them around more – the counter at Sweet Laurel bakery down the street from me is wrapped in the gorgeous pink squares above, and every time I walk past (or walk in to get their very delicious Snickerdoodle cookie) I stare at them and wish that it could ever make sense for me to have a pink kitchen.

Zellige is actually an ancient Moroccan terracotta tile type that is having a bit of a resurgence, and with good reason. Because Zellige is handmade, it has shape and color irregularities which adds to its imperfect, rustic look. They also tend to have a bit of sheen (in a nice way, not a weird 90’s pearlescent/sparkly way) to it, which is part of what makes them so special.

Cle’s Zellige range comes in a ton of different color ways, though my favorite might be their simple and beautiful ‘Weathered White‘. I think that using their rectangular shape in a kitchen would be a cool update on the traditional subway tile that has become so popular in the last few years (and with good reason – white subways are a classic, I’m not knocking them, I just think they’re starting to get a little overplayed and are always just a safe choice rather than an interesting or beautiful one). I also really love their hex shape and think that’d look great in a bathroom or kitchen as well. Really, any of them would look good pretty much anywhere.

Take a peek at how gorgeous their stuff is on their site, and below.
